Outreach Efforts

Effective community development work is a long-term process that takes a lot of work and community resources. Our community development work embodies our efforts to address social, economic and justice issues in Al Ritchie. Through this work we are able to better identify, build on and promote our community's strengths. A large part of how we are able to achieve this is through our Outreach Program.  Our community Outreach worker is responsible to create and maintain meaningful relationships with community members. One of the key projects outreach is currently working on is a Parent Directory of Resources that will be available to the community and delivered door to door.

Recreation Programs (September – March )

The Al Ritchie has been very fortunate this past year to acquire a new Yoga instructor to deliver this wonderful program. As well, successful funding applications enabled us to continue to deliver men’s health and recreation programs weekly at the Core Ritchie Neighborhood Centre.

Summer Jam Program (July- August, Mon- Fri )

Registration for the 2009 Summer Jam is on June 25th at Cochrane High School at 4:30pm. There will be a family barbecue to follow.

This summer recreation and education program is offered at no cost, five days/week (Monday to Friday) in Al Ritchie east. This program offers a safe, educational and healthy alternatives for children to turn to during the summer months. We have partnered with the Regina Housing Authority in the delivery of this project.  The program offers activities for children in two specific age groups: 4-7, and 8-12.

Community Gardens (May- September)

The ARCA has offered 20 community garden plots for the past ten years. They are located in Al Ritchie East near Cornwall School, and in Al Ritchie West near St. Augustine School. Plots cost $40.00, with $15.00 being refundable at season’s end. A Community Garden Committee oversees the management and maintenance of the garden and works closely with our Outreach worker as well. With the hard work from our committed gardeners, and with a little help from the City of Regina (especially the Parks and Maintenance Department) the gardens are looking better every year!  Hopefully this year there will be wonderful improvements to the garden project including a fence!

Other services and programs are offered throughout the year including food bank referrals, Good Food Box orders and parenting resource classes.
