Conference 1999 Theme

SWHSBC is proud to be the co-sponsor of the CASWHA 1999 conference in Vancouver (October 3-5, 1999). Planning for the conference began in April 1998 and enthusiasm continues to build among the rank and file for the wonderful opportunities a national conference provides.

The conference theme is "Social Work in the New Millennium" and will focus on The Unfolding Future of Canada's Health Care System. Following the recommendations of the National Forum on Health, four key areas of health spending are currently experiencing test runs of new ways of providing care:

From this milennial mountain view the conference seeks to provide report card highlights of new health service delivery systems as they are being explored and developed across the country, and new clinical and management strategies that millennium technology is making possible.

For social workers in health it is an exciting time to focus on the social determinants of health, person in the environment, Systems and holistic approaches to care. The conference will seek to explore opportunities and challenges for social workers in health in the new millennium.
