Heritage Community Park - A Page in Regina's History
Heritage Community Park is the result of people working in partnership to create a greenspace for the community. Although the community had proposed a park north of Victoria Avenue for many years, the actual concept of Heritage Community Park began in 1994. Phase One of the Park was officially opened on June 27, 2001. The Heritage Community Association played a vital role in the establishment of this Park. Its members formed a steering committee to consult residents, held public meetings and open houses, and worked with the City of Regina on the park design and development.

The Pepsi Bottling Group donated some of the land for this Park. The remainder was purchased from landowners within the proposed park boundaries and a number of long term residents sold their homes to make this Park a reality. The Park, build in two phases beginning in 2000, was designed to include an innovative underground "storm water retention" system. The streetscape along 11th Avenue has been enhanced by this development. Since its opening, Heritage Community Park has provided much needed recreation and greenspace for children, youth and seniors. This park features a playground set, basketball courts, picnic tables and horse shoe playing area and even has a large green grass area where a game of soccer or football can be played. |
