For information on any of these programs, please contact the Heritage Community Association @ 757-9952 Creativity and Culture Creativity and Culture is a once a week drop in arts and crafts program for children ages 4-8 years that promotes culture, creativity and imagination. The program is held every Tuesday at Thomson Community School from 3:30-5:00 pm from September to June. The children are provided with a healthy snack, the opportunity for interactive hands-on play and the materials and instruction to create a special craft of varied cultural backgrounds to take home each week. The children involved learn to work together as a team, feel more confident and have fun while accomplishing their craft project. Senshudokan Judo Club The Senshudokan Judo Club offers classes in recreational and competitive judo. Judo is a Japanese martial art and became recognized as an official Olympic sport in 1964. Senshudokan translates to "the way of the house of champions". True to martial arts philosophy, at the Senshudokan, along with mastery of self defense techniques, students are taught self-discipline and mutual respect. Classes are offered to students from the age of 7 to 14 years, at Thomson Community School . The instructors are sanctioned by Judo Saskatchewan and Judo Canada and student membership fees include membership in these sport governing bodies. After School Sports HCA continues to offer a 33 week after school drop in sport and recreation program to youth from the Heritage community. The program runs every Wednesday in the Thomson Community School gym from 3:30-6:30 p.m. from September to June. This program provides an opportunity for youth to increase their physical well-being and develop emotional capacity through regular participation in varied physical activities in a positive, supportive environment. The participants develop a positive self-image and healthy peer relationships through shared activities and cooperative discussion. Glitter & Glitz Creativity and Culture has been a very successful after school arts and crafts program for children ages 4 to 8 years of age. Older children and youth from the community have asked that a similar program be made available to them and HCA has designed an arts and crafts program entitled Glitter & Glitz to accommodate this request. The program for those aged 9 to 13 runs at Thomson Community School from September to June on Mondays from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Participants develop or enhance social skills by working together while learning new craft techniques and creating memorable take home projects. The children and youth enjoy exploring different art practices from around the world and art which is culturally significant to the Heritage community. On the Move The “On the Move” program is a nationally recognized physical activity program for girls. Heritage Community Association in partnership with Thomson Community School offers this 10 week program twice a year to new participants ages 9- 12 years on Wednesday evenings. The girls help co-ordinate the program by choosing physical activities they find interesting as well as activities that promote positive relationship building. The program which is offered free of charge to girls from the Heritage community is delivered in a non-judgmental environment where the participants are encouraged to try a variety of new physical and “feel good” activities such as rock climbing, swimming, bowling and miniature golf. Cultural Horse Camps Heritage Community Association runs at no cost to families, overnight and one day camps at Twisted Wire Ranch, located near the Qu'appelle Valley, 30 kilometres northeast of Regina . Activities are offered in a safe, wholesome and supportive environment for horse enthusiasts ages 6 and up. Parents accompany their children as they learn all that goes into a becoming a real rider while having lots of fun. Hands on horse related games and activities; camp fires, wagon rides, creating a meaningful keepsake project and more make the cultural horse camps a truly memorable family experience. Transportation is provided free of charge. |
