1. PROJECT: Social and Educational Development for Rural Youths. 

CYDE concept of integral development embodies all Social, Moral, Cultural and Educational Objectives.

 

   2. MISSION STATEMENT: CYDE avails youths of enabling environment, opportunities, facilities and the professional services of youth development professionals to aid the youth integral development.                  

 

3 METHODOLOGY: Campaigns, Seminars, Workshops, Counseling Services, Careers Guidance, Career Planning, Extramural Lectures, Education to information technology, Development of English Language Skills (oral / written), Development of innate creative art and talents and sports.    

 

4.     SOURCES OF FUNDING: Personal and local contribution (1996-date). Now seeking funding from international and local agencies and foundations.

5.    DEVELOPMENT: The project is in its first phase of development – avails youths of enabling environment, opportunities, facilities and the professional services of youth development experts to aid the youths integral development.

[C Y D E1] 7. IMPLEMENTATION: The youths are contacted by outreach. They are formed into group association for easy motivation by facilitators. CYDE is also in association with the 17 secondary schools in the Kabba / Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi   State. CYDE offers free extra mural lessons on Fridays and Saturdays and organizes holiday summer school programmes. The group associations are formed into clubs for integral development activities and competitions. At the moment, there are ten community youth associations, seventeen rural community secondary schools under CYDE auspices. More centers are being opened.

8. HISTORY: Experimentation with the programme began in 1996 when CYDE organized a holiday summer school for students and youths of Kabba and its environs. There were 830 students in attendance. Latter that year, CYDE went into collaborative association with three schools- St. Barnabas secondary school; St. Augustine’s college and Federal government Girls College, Kabba, for CYDE programmes and activities. Today, CYDE youth development programme has been extended to cover over ten rural communities and seventeen secondary schools in the LGA. In addition, CYDE is engage with youths in parochial settings.

 

9.DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMMES: The CYDE programmes are as diverse as there are areas of social and educational development for youth’s integral development. CYDE motivates the youths to get focused and aim for a better and responsible future. Campaigns, seminars, workshops, individual contact counseling, teaching and diverse subject matters of learning are some of our pedagogical approaches and methodology.

10. PROGRAMME PURPOSE: General responsible observation reveals that if much were not done urgently the youths here would be lost to the   baneful menace of the times. CYDE is convinced that if these youths are availed of enabling environment, facilities and  resources, they will become more motivated, focused, matured and develop   capabilities for solving  personal   an social   problems  and have a firm grasp of  their future with responsibility.

11. PROGRAMME SETTING: The programme is carried out mostly in the public and private secondary schools and in the parochial settings of various denominations in both kabba and the rural interiors.  

 12. INTENDED TARGET AUDIENCE: The  immediate  beneficiaries are the youths, students, vocational apprentices and  the recalcitrants. Their rapidly declining morale and rectitude needs to be awakened and  developed.   

  13.PROGRAMME PARTICIPANTS: Over 10,000 youths have so far been reached. (All participants at a session sign their names in the CYDE register).  

14. PROGRAMME GOALS: Helping the youths overcome social and educational disabilities, create a disposition for clear, critical and strategic reasoning for personal and social problem solving, to rid off confusion and misery in their lives and integral development.

15. INSTRUCTIONAL TIME: Two and half-hours per day (2-3 sessions) per week.  

16.STAFFING PATTERNS: University graduates in relevant professional fields. (1) Volunteers (2) Demonstrate concern for improving youth cognitive potentials (3)Show interest in youths integral development and ideas generally. 

17. STAFF DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: Standard teachers training model for work and encounter with youths in rural dwellings weekly. This is facilitated by a two and half-hours weekly seminars. The director 2 to 3 times per term observes the teachers in their fieldwork.   

18. COST OF PROGRAMME INITIATION AND MAINTAINANCE: The programme is initiated at a minimal cost per school, per session with maintenance cost being as low as N1000.00 ($12.00) per encounter. Each school is encountered 12 times in a term (i.e. 2 encounters per class 1- 6).
