Rules

The Regina Female Hockey Tournament is sanctioned by SHA and follows the CHA and SHA rules governing minor hockey

The tournament committee reserves the right to alter and enforce any rule deemed necessary to operate the tournament in a safe, timely and efficient manner.

NOTE:  Rules will be strictly enforced under the new Hockey Canada rules emphasis on hooking, interference, clutching and grabbing, high hits, stickwork and checking from behind. 

Home team will wear white jersey’s and Visiting team will wear dark jersey’s.

Time allowances:
5 minute warm up

Novice Game Times: 1 hour
1 st period – 15 minutes running time
2 nd period – 15 minutes running time
3 rd period – 20 minutes running time, last 3 minutes stop time

Atom Game Times: 1 hour and 15 minutes
1 st period – 20 minutes running time
2 nd period – 20 minutes running time
3 rd period – 20 minutes running time, last 3 minutes stop time

Pee Wee Game Times: 1 hour and 30 minutes
1 st period – 15 minutes stop time
2 nd period – 15 minutes stop time
3 rd period – 20 minutes stop time

Bantam Game Times: 1 hour and 45 minutes
1 st period – 15 minutes stop time
2 nd period – 20 minutes stop time
3 rd period – 20 minutes stop time

Midget Game Times: 2 hours
1 st period – 20 minutes stop time
2 nd period – 20 minutes stop time
3 rd period – 20 minutes stop time


Referees and timekeepers have the right to adjust any time remaining in the third period of the game.  

Ice cleaning (15 minute allocation) will take place between games in Novice, Atom and Pee Wee and every second period in Bantam and Midget.  

All teams are to be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. A team which is late for an opening face-off will be assessed a one-goal penalty for every five minutes they are late to a maximum of five, at which the time the game will be awarded to the other team.  

Mercy Rule – If there is a five-goal or more spread in the third period the play clock will run at straight time. If the spread goes back to four goals or less, then the play clock will go back to stop time. If 7 goals or more separate the teams, the score will not display additional goals.

The following are NOT allowed:

-Time outs
-Protests
-Stick or equipment measurements
-Body checking

No red line rule is in effect in all divisions.

Mouthguards are not mandatory.

A game MVP will be selected from each Pee Wee, Bantam, Bantam AA, and Midget game, by their coaches.  Teams will line up on their blue lines at the conclusion of each game.

The referee’s decisions are final in all matters pertaining to rule interpretations, assessment of penalties, awarding of goals and assists. 

GAME MISCONDUCT: as per SHA rule 3.07.02 (k) any player or team official who is assessed a game misconduct during the last 10 minutes of a game will miss the  remainder of the game being played and one additional game. 

GAME EJECTION: any player assessed three minor stick infraction penalties or a total of five penalties in a game shall be required to leave the ice area for the remainder of the game.   

MATCH PENALTY:  any player assessed a match penalty will be suspended as per the SHA Regulation 3.07.02  and will not be able to play in the remainder of the tournament.

All penalties will be served as follows: 

-Straight time during straight time periods
-S top time during stop time periods

PLAY FORMAT:

All divisions will play a pool format:  Win – 2 points, Tie – 1 point, Loss – 0 points   

There will be no overtime during round robin play.  

In the event of a tie after round robin play, the following SHA Tiebreaking Procedure will apply (3.09.01):

• Best win record between tied teams. 
• Best plus minus record based on goals for and against (goals for minus goals against). 
• Best ratio of goals for divided by the sum of goals for and goals against. ** Note: A maximum of 7 goal difference per game will be used in the calculations. This will be calculated from the actual "goals for" of the losing team in the particular game.  
• The team with the least number of minutes in penalties throughout “all” games, gains the higher position. 
• First goal scored between tied teams. 
• Coin toss. 

OVERTIME:

Semi final and final tie break procedures are as follows:

(1) 5 minute 4 on 4
(2 )If still tied, each team will provide five players for a shootout.
(3) If still tied, each team will provide additional shooters one at a time. You may not use a player twice till all your players have shot.
