Policy on Funding for Shows Produced by Enhanced Members of RAMED

February 20, 2007

Members and Enhanced Members of the Regina Association of Middle Eastern Dance (RAMED) produce dance shows that benefit RAMED members by providing opportunities to enhance their performance skills and perform throughout the year.  This policy recognizes that these shows supplement the performance opportunities organized by RAMED.

I.  Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to assist Enhanced Members of RAMED with producing belly dance shows.  To accomplish this goal, RAMED offers two types of financial assistance:

·        A grant to assist Enhanced Members who are producing a belly dance show for the first time, as described in section III below.

·        Financial assistance to assist with financial losses that Enhanced Members incur from producing their own shows, as described in section IV below.

II.  Criteria

·        Only shows produced and organized by troupes or Enhanced Members of RAMED are eligible.

o       Troupes are eligible provided that every person in the troupe has a regular RAMED membership and their membership is in good standing.  (They do not necessarily have to be Enhanced Members.)

Ø      A troupe is defined as three or more individuals who associate for the purpose of dancing together as a group.

·        The show must focus on belly dancing.  This includes Middle Eastern folk dances, tribal dance, cabaret, Oriental, Egyptian, fusion styles that incorporate belly dance and other dance forms, and other styles that the RAMED Board (the “Board”) deem to be relevant.

·        Each show is eligible for only one grant, regardless of how many Enhanced Members, Members and/or Associate Members of RAMED are involved in producing it.

·        Each application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and the Board reserves the right to refuse any application.

III.  Grant for First Time Shows

RAMED may provide a grant of up to $200.00 to assist Enhanced Members and troupes with producing their first belly dance show.

A.     Restrictions

·        The grant is intended to assist Enhanced Members and troupes with producing their first belly dance show.  However, an exception may be made for Enhanced Members who produce a show after January 1, 2007, provided that they are Enhanced Members at the time they apply and their membership is in good standing.

·        Enhanced Members will normally receive only one such grant, regardless of how long they belong to RAMED or how many shows they produce.

·        Troupes are eligible for only one grant, regardless of how many Enhanced Members and Members of RAMED are members of the troupe.

·        The grant may be used to support costs such as renting a venue, printing posters, paying guest artists, and other reasonable expenses related to producing the show.

B.     Conditions

·        The applicant (or a representative of the troupe) must provide RAMED with a proposal that includes the following information in writing:

o       The date that the show will occur;

o       The location of the show;

o       A program or description that includes the names of any performers and guest artists who are expected to perform and the types of performances;

o       How many Regina dancers or RAMED members would be able to perform; and

o       A budget outlining all expenses and revenue expected in regards to the show.

·        Following the show, the applicant (or troupe representative) must provide RAMED with the following information:

o       A program or list of all individuals who performed in the show and the types of performances; and

o       Supporting documentation for expenses relating to the show, up to $200.00.

IV.  Financial Assistance For Shows that Result in a Financial Loss

RAMED may provide financial assistance of up to 50% of the net loss incurred by an Enhanced Member or troupe in the course of producing a belly dance show.  The maximum amount that may be provided is $500.00 less any amount provided by RAMED if the applicant or troupe received a grant for producing a first time show.  This is meant to support belly dance shows that provide performance opportunities for RAMED Members, by reducing the potential for financial loss.

A.     Conditions

·        The show must occur in Saskatchewan, Canada.

·        The show must have resulted in a net financial loss for the Enhanced Member or troupe that organized it.

·        The applicant (or troupe representative) must provide RAMED with the following information in writing:

o       The date that the show occurred;

o       The location of the show;

o       A program from the show, or a written description that includes the names of any performers and guest artists who performed and the types of performances;

o       A financial statement outlining revenue and expenses; and

o       Supporting documentation regarding the revenue and expenses, such as photocopies of a bank deposit slip and copies of receipts.

V.  Process for Reviewing Applications

After receiving an application, the Board will review it.  The Board will determine whether to accept the application and, if so, how much funding will be provided.

The Board will vote on whether to provide funding to the applicant.  The results of the vote will be recorded in the meeting minutes.

The Board may ask the applicant to provide additional information before making its decision.

The applicant will be notified of the Board’s decision within a reasonable period of time after the decision has been made.

If the application is successful, the applicant will receive a cheque for the amount determined by the Board, up to a maximum of $200.00 for a grant for first time shows or $500.00 less any amount provided as a grant for a first-time show for shows that resulted in a financial loss.

If the application is not successful, the Board will inform the applicant about the reason(s) why the application was rejected.
