NUTS & BOLTS

This is a great snack for field trips or in your lunch.

 

3 cups shreddies

3 cups cheerios

3 cups air popped popcorn

1 cup peanuts *

1 cup sunflower seeds, unsalted and shelled

1 cup raisins.

 

Mix together and put into small bags (snack sized portions).

 

* For those with peanut allergies, substitute other nuts like almonds or soya beans.

 

 

FRUIT SALAD

You can use any or all of the fruit listed below or add others that are not on the list.

 

At certain times of the year some fruits are not easy to get or may be very expensive.  You can use almost any kind of fruit.

 

You need:

1 - 14 ounce can of pineapple chunks

1 cup of grapes

2 oranges

2 apples

2 bananas

1/4 cup lemon juice

 

Equipment:

variety of bowls          strainer / sieve

paring knife                cutting board

wooden skewers       can opener

 

Instructions:

  1. Pour lemon juice into a small bowl.

  2. Open the can of pineapple chunks and drain off liquid through strainer.  (Keep the juice and chill to have as a drink.)

  3. Place pineapple chunks into a bowl and set aside.

  4. Thoroughly wash grapes and apples.

  5. Remove grapes from the stem, place in bowl with pineapple and set aside.

  6. Slice apple pieces into the bowl of lemon juice.  Remove from the lemon juice and put in bowl with other fruit.

  7. Peel bananas and oranges.  Slice bananas into one inch slices.

  8. Dip bananas into lemon juice and then remove.  Place into fruit bowl and set aside.

  9. Separate oranges into sections and add to fruit bowl.

  10. Mix fruit together in bowl, serve and enjoy your healthy fruit salad.

FRENCH TOAST

 

You need:

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon sugar

6 slices bread

1 teaspoon oil

syrup (or apple sauce or yogurt)

 

Equipment:

1 frying pan       1 flipper

1 knife                2 forks

shallow bowl

 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat pan over medium heat on the stove.

  2. Break eggs into bowl.  Break yolks with fork and mix really good.  Beat in milk and sugar.

  3. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, make sure both sides are wet.

  4. Heat oil in pan.  Place dipped bread slices in pan and cook until golden brown (about 3 to 4 minutes).  Turn and cook other side.

  5. Drizzle lightly with syrup and serve at once.  As well, you can try apple sauce or yogurt instead of syrup.
