IntroductionWelcome to the web page of Nature Regina,(originally the Regina Natural History Society). This page provides a central location for information about the Society's activities, meetings, and interests. Meetings are generally held on the third Monday of each month, beginnng at 7:30pm, except during the summer, and are open to the public. They are held at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, at Albert Street and College Avenue, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Members of the society are interested in a variety of topics. Natural History is a subject that involves many aspects of our outdoor environment, including plants, animals, landforms, climate, and cultural history. The Regina area has many interesting locations with excellent birding opportunities. The society is also active within the Regina environmental community, participating in a number of collaborative projects and frequently voicing concerns to local and provincial governments on environmental topics. The society also organizes field trips in and around Regina. These trips are usually held on the weekend, and are led by society members. There is no cost, although carpooling is recommended and it is polite to offer to share gas costs. Most field trips leave from the parking lot of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. Members receive the Society's newsletter six times per year, containing information about the Society's activities as well as other environmental concerns and information. Nature Regina is a local affiliate of Nature Saskatchewan Our 75th Anniversary!Although people interested in Natural History in the Regina area are rumoured to have been meeting since at least the early 1900s, it was on January 18, 1933 that The Regina Natural History Society (now Nature Regina) was officially incorporated. That makes 2008 the year of our 75th Anniversary, and we will be celebrating this event in several ways this year. We will start with a special dinner on January 18, 2008 (see the Meetings page for details). The newsletter will contain special features about the history of the society, and we will be planning additional special events. We've created a special version of our logo, and will use it on the web page and mailings. We hope that you will all join us in this celebration. Checklist of the Birds of A. E. Wilson ParkLong-time Nature Regina member Sandy Ayer moved to Calgary a couple of years ago, but when he lived in Regina he spent a lot of time in A.E. Wilson Park. Over many years, he maintained a list of birds he observed in the park, and he recently sent us a checklist based on his observations. He originally suggested it be printed in our newsletter, but we decided, partly due to the length of the list, that we would give it a more permanent home here on the Society's web page. We'll keep a permanent link (at the moment it's on the Bird Alert page), but for now we'll also give you a link here. To view the list, Click Here Aims of the Society(1) To foster, stimulate, develop and sustain an interest in, and under-standing and enjoyment of nature in all its various aspects, as well as the preservation of natural resources of every kind and description among its members and the public in general and, with a view thereto, to undertake and do all such things as may from time to time be deemed appropriate to further the aims and objectives of the Society. (2) Subscribe to become a member and cooperate with any other society or association, whether incorporate or not, whose objects are in whole or part similar to the aims and objectives of the society.
