Welcome to the official web site of the Regina Philharmonic Chorus. For over thirty-five years, the Regina Philharmonic Chorus has been a vibrant arts organization in Regina. Through our concerts and Regina Symphony Orchestra performances, we continue to bring major choral music to our community.
The chorus was initially formed in 1972 as a community choir to sing Handel's Messiah with the Regina Symphony (as a youngster I attended that concert). It became an independent organization in 1984. Since its inception, the chorus has bought both familiar and less well know choral music to Regina audiences. Recent performances have included Verdi's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Rutter's Magnificat, Bach's Magnificat, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, David McIntyre's Proud Music of the Storm and the resoundingly successful The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins. The Chorus also performs Handel's Messiah annually with the RSO and performs lighter choral music through its annual fund raising event "Lunch at the Philharmonic Café".
In addition to it's performances, the Chorus promotes the development of choral music in our community through activities that have included commissioning a major choral composition from Regina composer David McIntyre, incorporating youth choirs into our concerts, providing performance opportunities for local soloists who are beginning their musical careers and providing a choral scholarship for the Regina Music Festival.
For years I had attended Philharmonic Chorus performances and, after years in the audience, I decided to be a part of this fine musical organization. Whether you are part of the chorus or the audience, when over 100 singers, a professional orchestra and accomplished soloists come together to perform great choral music, the energy is simply electrifying.
This year, under the leadership of our artistic director, Hart Godden, we have another inspiring programme for our audiences and singers alike. I invite you to experience the exciting music in our 2011-12 season by attending our performances and, if you are a singer, as part of the chorus.
Wishing you all the best,
Brad Klinger
