The 6th Annual Aboriginal Broomball Championships saw 22 teams participating in six categories of play. Our Aboriginal Development program is a Sport For All, Target Groups Initiatives project. Under the Sask Sport grant system 35% of all funds received from the Trust must be directed to Sport For All projects. Aboriginal projects are a key initiative for the SBA in this grant section.

The goal of this Championship is to encourage Aboriginal teams to become SBA members. Once contact is made with teams we can then move on to assist with development of their local programs. Another key purpose of this championship is to encourage Aboriginal Broomball teams to play provincially. Teams from this event are encouraged to enter SBA provincials. This year we saw two of these teams enter our Provincials with both teams fairing quite well.

Programs which participated in this Broomball Championship include:

Makwa Sahgaiehcan
Turner Lake
Agency Chiefs Tribal Council
Saulteaux
Meadow Lake Tribal Council
Waterhen Lake
Laronge
Onion Lake
Ahtahkakoop
Moquito

This season we had approximately 45 Aboriginal teams involved in SBA programs.

Thanks go to Ellon Dillon and Brent Dillon in Onion Lake for hosting the event in Onion Lake this year.
