M.J. Coldwell school was the first school in the Uplands community. The school was named in honour of Major James Coldwell.
Mr. Coldwell was an outstanding educator and politician. He served as a teacher and principal from 1919 to 1935. He was elected nine times to the Regina City Council and was then elected as a Member of Parliment for the Rosetown-Bigger constituency. M.J. Coldwell was a universally respected parlimentarian and a highly respected individual in the development and growth of the Saskatchewan teaching profession.
