ASSINIBOIA LACROSSE Lacrosse in Assiniboia has a long history. In the 1960's and early 1970's, Assiniboia was a powerhouse in lacrosse, winning the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association championships in 1970, 1971, and 1972. The local squad had even played in national championships and various tournaments. Ed Bearss was the founder of the program, and is an honorary member of the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association. In 2000, inter lacrosse was introduced into the Saskatchewan summer games. Brent Adam formed a team that played off against Moose Jaw for Zone 3, and narrowly lost in the two game series. This spurred the interest in Assiniboia to get box lacrosse going again. The following year, the first team was formed in the junior category under coaches Brent Adam, Dale Berner, and George Santo. A couple players from Moose Jaw in the form of David Mitchell and Craig Nickel joined the Attack. The team saw some success in their first ever season, winning a game over Regina, defeating Big River, and tying Saskatoon once. In 2002, the Assiniboia Association expanded to a bantam and midget team as well. Brent, Dale, and George coached the midget team as well, while Mylo Chubb headed the Bantam Chiefs. This year, Assiniboia hopes to add teams at the Pee Wee and Novice levels.
