As you probably know, the new Competency Based Education & Training (CBET) coaching program is replacing the NCCP coaching program. This program will be replacing NCCP for all sports and lacrosse is one of the first sports in Canada to be proceeding with this changeover.

If you are fully certified (Technical + Practical + Theory) in the NCCP course and meet the requirements for the specific age division then you have a 5-year grace period before you will be required to become certified in the CBET program.

CANADIAN LACROSSE ASSOCIATION MINIMUM COACHING STANDARDS – CBET/NCCP:

Enclosed, please find the minimum coaching standards as developed by the Canadian Lacrosse Association for implementation by each provincial association for the current season and beyond. The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association is requesting all member associations to abide by these minimum standards as much as possible. Please be aware these minimum standards will be enforced at out of province tournaments.

Please be reminded all teams are required to have at least one individual as a Level 1 fully certified coach (NCCP or CBET) in that specific sector on the bench for the provincial championships.

All teams are required to have at least one individual as a Level 1 fully certified coach (NCCP or CBET) in that specific sector on the bench for the provincial championships.

LEARNING FACILITATORS REQUIRED:

The Saskatchewan Lacrosse Association requires more box lacrosse Learning Facilitators (Coach Course Instructors) to meet the demands of the growing membership. We currently have Steve Michaluk of Moose Jaw and Dwight Harnish of Saskatoon certified to instructor box Community Coach courses but require at least two additional individuals to be brought into the program. The SLA will provide training and arrange for the proper mentorship in bringing individuals to an appropriate level of expertise. Please contact the SLA office if you are interested in receiving more information.

Benefits to being a Learning Facilitator:

  • Assist in the development of lacrosse in Saskatchewan
  • Travel opportunities within Saskatchewan and throughout Canada (last year – Dwight & Steve were trained in Vancouver)
  • Provides a new challenge in this rewarding opportunity
