Regulations for Scholarships and Awards
1. Every student is encouraged to enter the Regina Music Festival, and if she/he is not eligible for local scholarships, she/he can still win classes and proceed to Provincial Competitions as well as be recommended to compete for National Competitions. (See SMFA Syllabus for regulations and class descriptions).
2. A contestant must compete in at least two solo competitons in order to be considered for scholarships.
3. The Regina Music Festival Scholarships will be awarded to Saskatchewan born students studying with a professional teacher or institution in Saskatchewan or elsewhere, or out of province born students currently studying in Saskatchewan.
4. A contestant may not receive the same award more than two years in succession but will be eligible after a lapse of one year. The choir competitions are exempt from this regulation.
5. The maximum number of local awards an entrant may win in one year is three, exclusive of the Shumiatcher Scholarships and the Regina Central Lions Scholarships, the Kinsem Scholarships and the Festival Grand Award.
6. The decision for awarding all scholarships and awards will be made by the adjudicators. The decision of the adjudicator is final.
7. In case of a tie for a scholarship, where more than one class is involved, the contestant in the more senior class will be awarded the scholarship. The final decision will be made by the adjudicators.
*** A competitor who is eligible for a Regina Music Festival Scholarship MUST be in attendance at the Awards Presentations to accept the scholarship, with the exception of the Shumiatcher Scholarships, the Regina Central Lions Scholarships, and the Kinsmen Scholarships. Any exceptions to the 'attendence rule' must be approved, in advance, by the Regina Music Festival President. ***
SPECIAL COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS
The Regina Music Festival Association, in cooperation with its sponsoring donors, proudly offers the following competitions and special awards to encourage excellence among the talented musicians who enter the Festival.
Throughout its history, the Regina Music Festival Association has provided a vehicle for performance and competition for thousands of musicians. From among those, we are proud to say that many prominent musicians in Canada and throughout the world have been recipients of scholarships from the Regina Music Festival.
Senior competitors in the Festival are encouraged to apply for one or more of the following competitions or special scholarships.

The Regina Music Festival Association reserves the right to adjust any scholarship description that we may have erroneously presented herein. It is our intention, at all times, to present each Scholarship in the exact detail laid down by the Scholarship donor. Should we have erred in the preparation of this document; our mistake will be rectified before the scholarship is awarded.
Additional scholarships may be created between the publication of this Scholarship Listing and the annual Regina Music Festival. Every scholarship generously offered by our wonderful donors, will be made available to our deserving students at the time of the Festival. Details of all scholarships will be printed in the Festival Program.

For scholarships established after March, 1991, the following minimum level guidelines apply:

The Regina Music Festival Association reserves the right to establish or modify scholarship criteria in accordance with the regulations and needs of the Festival. The Scholarship Committee will consult annually with the donor to confirm each scholarship and its criteria.

In order to be considered for the following scholarship, entrants must complete a competition Application or Entry Form in advance which can now be downloaded from our Registration page:
MRS JACQUI SCHUMIATCHER generously sponsors a competition for performers at the Regina Music Festival in each of four disciplines - piano, vocal, strings and brass/woodwind. Students wishing to participate must apply in advance, and when numbers require, a preliminary round of competition will be held. The winner in each discipline will receive $500, and the runner-up in each, $300.
Applications must be received by the Regina Music Festival Association by January 31 preceding the Festival.
